How is Save A Bow Wow Rescue Different?
Save A Bow Wow Rescue is committed to doing rescue responsibly, transparently, and with the protection of our animals, adopters, fosters, and volunteers in mind.
We are a fully incorporated 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue, and we take the responsibility that comes with caring for animals very seriously. That means putting safeguards in place that many small, foster based rescues simply cannot afford.
One example is rescue liability insurance. Our policy costs thousands of dollars each year—an expense that is not required of every rescue organization, but one we believe is an important part of operating responsibly. We maintain this coverage because our volunteers open their homes and lives to animals in need, and we want to provide an additional layer of protection for everyone involved.
We also invest in veterinary care, required medical protocols, identification and microchipping, adoption screening, contracts, foster support, and the administrative requirements necessary to operate a legitimate nonprofit organization.
These things aren’t free. Every dollar donated to Save A Bow Wow helps us continue providing this level of care and accountability while still putting as much funding as possible directly toward the animals who need us.
We don’t share this to suggest that other rescues are doing something wrong. We share it because we want our supporters to understand what goes on behind the scenes—and why supporting a responsible rescue matters.
Rescue is more than saving an animal. It’s taking responsibility for everything that comes with saving them.
We Protect Our Animals — And The People Who Protect Them…
Doing Rescue The Right Way Means Protecting Everyone Involved.
At Save A Bow Wow Rescue, we believe rescue is about more than saving an animal. It is about creating a responsible, sustainable organization that protects the animals and the incredible volunteers who open their homes and hearts to them.
That is why we made the decision to carry comprehensive insurance specifically designed to protect our rescue organization and the volunteers who make our work possible.
And it is not inexpensive.
Our rescue insurance costs thousands of dollars each year, with our policy alone costing OVER $5,000. For a small, foster-based nonprofit that depends heavily on donations, that is a significant expense.
But we believe it is a necessary one.
Why Does Rescue Insurance Matter?
Our volunteers do something extraordinary: they open their personal homes to animals who have nowhere else to go.
They care for dogs in their homes, transport animals, take them to veterinary appointments, administer medications, provide rehabilitation, and sometimes care for animals with significant medical or behavioral needs.
That comes with real responsibility and real risk.
We refuse to put the people who volunteer for our organization in a position where they are left unprotected simply because insurance is expensive.
Our volunteers are the backbone of Save A Bow Wow. They deserve to be protected.
We also believe that responsible rescue means planning for the unexpected rather than hoping nothing ever goes wrong.
Your Donations Help Us Do Rescue Responsibly
When you donate to Save A Bow Wow, you are not simply helping us pay a veterinary bill or purchase food.
You are helping us maintain the infrastructure necessary to operate a legitimate, responsible rescue organization.
Your support helps make it possible for us to:
- Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
- Protect our dedicated foster families and volunteers
- Provide veterinary care to animals in our program
- Safely transport animals
- Provide food, supplies, medications and other necessities
- Prepare for unexpected emergencies
- Operate responsibly as a nonprofit organization
- Continue saying YES when an animal desperately needs help
What makes our rescue so different from most others? We Could Take Shortcuts. We Choose Not To.
There are many ways a rescue can reduce its expenses. Insurance is one of them.
It is a VERY LARGE annual expense that could easily be eliminated from a rescue budget, but doing so would shift the risk onto the very volunteers who sacrifice their time, homes and personal resources to save animals.
We don’t believe that’s acceptable.
We believe the people who dedicate themselves to saving animals should not have to choose between helping a dog and protecting themselves.
So we pay for the insurance. Even when it hurts our budget. Even when that money could have paid for another surgery.
Even when donations are tight.
Because doing rescue the right way sometimes means paying for the things nobody sees.
This Is What Your Donation Supports
At Save A Bow Wow, we want our donors to know that we take stewardship seriously. We don’t want to simply rescue more animals. We want to rescue them responsibly.
We want our foster families protected.
We want our volunteers protected.
We want our animals protected.
And we want our organization built to continue helping animals for years to come.
That is why your donation matters. You’re not just donating to a rescue. You’re investing in a rescue that believes in doing things the right way.
Every dollar helps us build a safer, stronger and more responsible organization — one that can continue protecting animals while also protecting the people who make their second chances possible.
Save An Animal. Protect A Volunteer. Strengthen Rescue.
That’s the Save A Bow Wow difference.
