Do you know what will become of your beloved pet should something happen to you? If you become incapacitated, ill or worse; is there a solid plan in place? Its crucial to plan ahead!
Will your canine best friend end up in the dog pound? Euthanized? You are here now, but can be gone tomorrow and taken unexpectedly.
A responsible pet parent will ensure their canine companion has a lifelong safety net.
What can I do now to prepare for the unexpected?
- Find at least two responsible friends or relatives who agree to serve as temporary emergency
caregivers in the event that something unexpected happens to you. Provide them with keys to your
home; feeding and care instructions; the name of your veterinarian; and information about the
permanent care provisions you have made for your pet. - Make sure your neighbors, friends and relatives know how many pets you have and the names and
contact numbers of the individuals who have agreed to serve as emergency caregivers. Emergency
caregivers should also know how to contact each other. - Designate someone to take care of your animal(s) in your will or living trust. If they are unable, document a legal plan for them. Be sure to leave your designee a financial contribution to ensure your pet will receive medical and proper care.
Here are some ideas….. include us in your will or living trust. Maintain pet insurance, legally document a monthly monetary amount / allowance for your pet(s) food, medical, treats, pet bed, toys, needs etc.
